She Waited

Aye, the sun climbs erelong to find my soul
Alone with you, whose unseen plans go alee
To foundations adorned with chalcedony.

While earthly light still shines aright, the race,
Driven like a horse hied on a lonely quest,
Goes on, thro ruth and ail – galloping by grace.

But by my troth, there is no quickening now.
Feet, once nimble, are wearied by idol chase
Left lovelorn, with naught but your enduring vow.
